The Chief Vigilance Officer of the Institute is appointed by the Competent Authority in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India as part-time Chief Vigilance Officer in the Institute for a period of three years w.e.f. 10.08.2016.The CVO is required to function as per the guidelines provided by the CVC on the matters pertaining to vigilance Dr. Atanu Banerjee is presently functioning as CVO of the Institute
 
The function of CVO:
The CVO heads the Vigilance Division of the organization concerned and acts as a special assistant/advisor to the chief executive in all matters pertaining to vigilance. He also provides a link between his organization and the Central Vigilance Commission on one hand and his organization and the Central Bureau of Investigation on the other. Vigilance functions to be performed by the CVO are of wide sweep and include collecting intelligence about the corrupt practices committed, or likely to be committed by the employees of his organisation; investigating or causing an investigation to be made into verifiable allegations reported to him; processing investigation reports for further consideration of the disciplinary authority concerned; referring the matters to the Commission for advice wherever necessary, taking steps to prevent commission of improper practices/misconducts, etc. Thus, the CVO’s functions can broadly be divided into three parts, viz.
 
Preventive vigilance
Punitive vigilance; and
Surveillance and detection.
