A one-day workshop on “CORS, GNSS and their Applications” was successfully organized on 8th April 2026 by the Civil Engineering Department, NIT Meghalaya, through the MoU with the Survey of India.
The workshop was primarily aimed at undergraduate students to enhance their understanding of modern surveying technologies and their practical applications in civil engineering. The program commenced with introductory sessions focusing on the fundamentals of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Experts from Survey of India delivered insightful lectures highlighting the importance of these technologies in accurate positioning, mapping, and infrastructure development.
Following the theoretical sessions, the workshop included an extensive hands-on training component, where students were introduced to the operation and applications of advanced surveying instruments. The practical sessions covered the use of Total Station, Electronic Distance Measurement System, and Drone-based survey techniques. Students actively participated in field demonstrations, gaining valuable exposure to real-time data acquisition and modern surveying practices.
The workshop provided an excellent platform for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and field applications, equipping students with industry-relevant skills. The interactive sessions and expert guidance were highly appreciated by the participants.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and contribution of the Survey of India team and faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department, NIT Meghalaya for making the workshop a success.
